Skillwell Brings Personalized Learning Into the Blackboard LMS

A new integration announced at Building Blackboard Together puts adaptive, skills-based learning where faculty and students already work.

This month at Building Blackboard Together, Skillwell shared some exciting news: we're partnering with Blackboard to bring our personalized learning platform directly into the Blackboard LMS. For institutions already living in Blackboard day to day, that means adaptive learning pathways and skill verification now live inside the course environment instructors already know, rather than in a separate tool competing for attention.

Personalized learning has been a goal for a long time, but it's often meant extra setup and extra work for faculty. This integration flips that. Instead of asking instructors to manage a new system on top of everything else, the adaptive pathways run quietly in the background, adjusting to where each student actually is, flagging gaps early, and pointing learners toward the specific skills they still need to build. Institutions get a clearer, more continuous picture of mastery across a course, without adding anything to faculty workload.

That focus on measurable outcomes is really the point. As Skillwell's CEO Phill Miller put it, “the goal is to make sure learners can prove what they can actually do, not just that they completed a course.” Blackboard's Wade Weichel echoed that framing, noting the partnership reinforces a shared teaching and learning mission, one that connects everyday coursework to skills students can actually carry into the workforce.
