Skillwell AutoBuild Puts Simulation Development in the Hands of Talent Practitioners

AI-powered platform cuts simulation development from months to minutes, making immersive training practical to deploy at scale for the first time.

The powerful evolution of Skillwell has continued with our recent release of an enhanced version of Skillwell Simulate, featuring its AI-powered authoring mode called AutoBuild. Subject matter experts can use AutoBuild to create realistic branching simulations in minutes rather than months, with only a few clicks needed to generate a realistic scenario without coding, complex timelines, or waiting on developers.

Simulation-based training is widely recognized as one of the most effective ways to build workplace skills, but the time and cost to produce it has kept some organizations from using simulations beyond a handful of high-stakes training programs. AutoBuild puts that capability within reach for far more teams and use cases, opening up a form of learning that has historically been reserved for organizations with the budget and development resources to commission it.

“Subject matter experts have always known what their teams need to practice, but building a simulation meant pulling in a development team and waiting weeks for it to come back,” said Phill Miller, CEO of Skillwell. “AutoBuild takes that out of the equation. The people who know the work can author the training themselves, and organizations get verifiable records of demonstrated skill instead of just course completion.”

An author picks a topic, identifies the skills learners should practice, and generates a full branching scenario through a guided workflow. They preview the experience, adjust the scenario, characters, and decision points, and publish what used to take weeks or months in minutes. Once live, AI avatars perform the scene with synthesized voice, learners drive the story by selecting from on-screen responses, and a coaching avatar delivers voiceover feedback after each choice. Afterward, learners get a personalized skills report with replayable coaching, and organizations receive important skill performance data just as Simulate has always delivered.

Autobuild supports a wide range of enterprise and higher education training needs, including:

  • Leadership - Managers practice difficult conversations and receive coaching in a safe environment.
  • Sales and service - Customer-facing teams prepare for consultative selling and critical service interactions.
  • Onboarding - New hires get immersed in company culture and processes through realistic day-on-the-job scenarios.
  • Compliance and ethics - Employees move beyond theory to practice ethical decision-making in realistic dilemmas.
  • Professional services - Consultants prepare for high-stakes client presentations, negotiations, and stakeholder meetings.
  • DEI and inclusive leadership - Teams practice mitigating unconscious bias and building psychological safety.
